The Long Dark Tech-Time of the Soul

This is a technology focused blog that describes my trials and tribulations with techonlogy which, no matter what brave new world is promised to be just around the corner, nearly always fails to live up to expectations.

Here comes the chopper to chop off your network

I have previously mused on the possibility of RIAA and MPA making running a network without firewalls illegal. Doing so would allow them to prosecute anyone infected with malware that turned their machine into a file sharing zombie.

So I wasn't terribly surprised when I read about the municipality that passed a law regulating use of open WiFi networks by businesses. This was mostly to protect credit card data, and thus a good thing - I personally think there should be very strict regulation of storage of personal data. However I would not be at all surprised to hear many more reports of such laws being passed.
