No 1080 DVI output for Intel DG33TL
UPDATE 5/23/08 - see comments below that indicate it should actually support 1080p.
Just when I thought I'd identified the ideal motherboard for my new "homebrew" PC Minimx I noticed a problem. Reading the product guide for the Intel DG33TL motherboard I spotted this:
"The DVI port supports only DVI-D (digital only) displays. The maximum support resolution is 1600 x 1200 at a 60 Hz refresh rate. The DVI port is compliant with the DVI 1.0 specification."Rats! That really bites because it means I can't do 1920x1080 output for my new 24" LCD monitor using a digital connection -all my 1080i HDTV content would be squished and then upscaled to display it. The alternative is to use a VGA cable which seems to defeat the point of having digital everywhere, sigh... But this is confusing because elsewhere in the product guide it says the GMA 3100 graphics controller it uses:
Supports flat panels up to 2048 x 1536 at 75 Hz refresh (when in dual-channelSo does that mean they just stunted the video output capability through the DVI port? The technical product specification says the same thing so it doesn't seem like its an error.

This probably means I'll have to either go back to the Gigabyte G33M-S2H solution (which adds HDMI audio output), wait for G35 chipset solutions to arrive (so far no clear successor on that front), or try a P35 chipset board with discreet graphics card (more expensive and more power hungry).

It's an erroe
It's an error. The G33 supports 1080p over DVI.
Well the G33 may do but the docs for that mobo seem to indicate there is some mobo specific limitation - and you'll only get 1080p with an ADD2 card. I checked all the errata for that board and haven't come up with anything to contradict that info - have you seen any posts from DG33TL owners that mention this?
i am also a dg 33tl mobo owner. i too came to know abt this limitation after buying the board. so i've postponed my decision to buy a new lcd monitor and for now i'm stuck with my old crt.the mobo guide only says that the max supported resolution is 1600x1200. it doesnt mention all the supported resolutions. what about widescreen resolutions like 1440x900, 1680x1050 etc. the only thing i can do to justify myself abt the selecton is the 7.1 sound.
well, archie is right and we are wrong. the mobo product guide tells that the dvi port complies with the dvi 1.0 specification. i went through the dvi 1.0 spec. and now i can say that the dg33tl will support 1080p at 60Hz refresh rate. the pixel rate regd for 1920x1080 is nearly same as that reqd for 1600x1200. more details can be found at www.infocus.com/service/tech_library/pdfs/DVI-WhitePaper.pdf
